Tragedy Strikes the Skies

Loss of Communication and Crash in Indian Ocean

On November 28, 1987, a tragic incident occurred when South African Airways Flight 295, registration ZS-SAS, vanished from radar screens during its scheduled international passenger flight from Chiang Kai-shek International Airport in Taipei, Taiwan.

The Boeing 747 aircraft, named Helderberg, was en route to Johannesburg, South Africa, when communication with the flight control center was lost in the early hours of the morning.

Extensive Search and Rescue Operations

As news of the missing aircraft spread, extensive search and rescue operations were launched. However, despite a massive international effort, no trace of the plane or its passengers was ever found.

The loss of Flight 295 remains one of the deadliest aviation disasters in history, with all 159 passengers and crew on board tragically perishing.
