Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's current Prime Minister, comes from a distinguished family with a strong military background. His older brother, Yonatan "Yoni" Netanyahu, was a highly decorated commander in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) who was killed in action during the 1976 Entebbe hostage rescue. Benjamin's younger brother, Yonatan, has followed in their father's footsteps by serving as Prime Minister.

Early Life and Career

Yonatan Netanyahu was born in 1946 and joined the IDF in 1964. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a commander in the elite Sayeret Matkal unit. In 1976, he led the daring raid to rescue Israeli hostages from Entebbe Airport in Uganda. The operation was a success, but Yonatan Netanyahu was killed in the fighting.

Legacy

Yonatan Netanyahu became a national hero after his death. He is remembered as one of Israel's most courageous and skilled military leaders. His story continues to inspire Israelis and serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve in the IDF.

Benjamin Netanyahu: Political Career

Benjamin Netanyahu's political career began in the 1980s. He served as Israel's ambassador to the United Nations from 1984-1988 and played a key role in the negotiations that led to the 1993 Oslo Accords. Netanyahu has been elected Prime Minister three times: from 1996-1999, from 2009-2021, and currently since 2022.
