Indian Benchmark Indices End Lower for Third Consecutive Session

April 16, 2023

The Indian benchmark indices ended lower for the third consecutive session on April 16, 2023, with Nifty below 22150. The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) is the leading stock exchange in India, offering live equity market watch updates, including Nifty Sensex today.

Sensex and Nifty 50 fell by 1% each on all-round selloff. Investors lost over Rs. 2 lakh crore in a day. The decline was led by IT, consumer durables, metals, and oil and gas stocks.

The top losers in the Sensex pack were Infosys, TCS, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank. The top gainers were Bharti Airtel, Titan, Nestle, and Hindustan Unilever.

The broader market indices also declined, with the NSE Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 falling by 0.5% and 0.6%, respectively.

The market sentiment was dampened by weak global cues. The US Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates again in May, which could lead to a further outflow of capital from India.

Analysts expect the market to remain volatile in the near term. Investors should exercise caution and avoid making any aggressive bets.
